Un volante en el lugar y momento apropiado abrió un mundo de posibilidades para una madre inmigrante que buscaba empleo en San Francisco.

El verano pasado, Munkhtuul Tuvshinbayar (en la foto) estaba en el preescolar de su hija cuando a sus manos llegó un volante de Mission Admins, un programa gratis de MEDA en el que los participantes reciben capacitación laboral por cuatro semanas para empleos administrativos y en la industria bancaria.

Tuvshinbayar se registró en el programa con el fin de refrescar conocimientos y aprender nuevas habilidades para tener una mejor posición en su búsqueda de empleo. La inmigrante de Mongolia se graduó de Mission Admins en octubre y un mes después consiguió una plaza como Associate Banker en la sucursal del Chase Bank en el área de Marina en San Francisco.

“Estaba interesada en la industria bancaria”, dijo Tuvshinbayar. “[En Mission Admins] aprendí sobre política financiera y cumplimiento de normas, además de aprender a enviar emails profesionales, y herramientas como Google Calendar y Google Sheets”.

Sofía Flores, consejera de desarrollo laboral de MEDA, acompañó el proceso de Tuvshinbayar durante el programa y destacó su voluntad para aprender al igual que la evolución de su confianza.

“Munkhtuul se esforzó activamente para involucrarse con el material al hacer preguntas y compartir sus pensamientos durante nuestras discusiones en clase”, dijo Flores. “Munkhtuul fue un activo importante para la dinámica de clases”.

La madre de dos confirmó que el programa le brindó la seguridad que necesitaba para tener una candidatura laboral más fuerte.

“Sofía me ayudó a mejorar mi currículo profesional y me preparó para entrevistas con ejemplos de preguntas”, dijo Tuvshinbayar. “Recibí consejos para responder de manera profesional. No tuve nervios en el momento de la entrevista”.

Banking on Mission Admins Program, An Immigrant Mother Lands a Job

Seeing a flier at the right place and time opened up a world of possibilities for an immigrant mother looking for work in San Francisco.

Last summer, Munkhtuul Tuvshinbayar (photo) was at her daughter’s preschool when she picked up a flier for Mission Admins, a MEDA four-week program in which participants receive free job training for administrative and financial jobs.

Tuvshinbayar signed up for Mission Admins with the goal of learning new skills to offer prospective employers. Graduating from the program last October, just one month later she secured a position as Associate Banker at the Chase Bank branch in the Marina District of San Francisco.

“I was interested in the banking industry,” says Tuvshinbayar. “[At Mission Admins] I learned about policy and compliance, how to send professional emails, and software tools such Google Calendar and Google Sheets.”

MEDA Workforce Development Coach Sofía Flores guided Tuvshinbayar through the program and highlighted the participant’s willingness to learn coupled with her increased confidence.

“Munkhtuul actively pushed herself to engage with the material by asking questions and sharing her thoughts during our class discussions,” says Flores. “She was a major asset to the class’ dynamic.”

The mother of two confirmed that the program gave her the self-assurance she needed to become a strong job candidate.

“Sofía helped me with my resume and prepared me for interviews with sample questions,” says Tuvshinbayar. “I received advice about how to respond in a professional manner. I was not nervous at all by the time of the actual job interview.”
