“We are in our new home, which we love! Thanks, MEDA, for the invaluable assistance in putting us on the path that led us here.”
—MEDA First-Time Homebuyer clients Chris and Yayoi Baker
It’s no surprise that buying a home in San Francisco can present challenges, but the above quote from MEDA clients now enjoying their own residence showcases that it can be done … and that help is available. To sort through the confusion around housing, HomeownershipSF is pleased to present its “SF Housing Expo 2015.” MEDA has been invited to present information at this important community event.
HomeownershipSF is a collaboration of experienced, nonprofit homeownership service providers–a centralized resource for affordable-homeownership opportunities and foreclosure intervention education/counseling in San Francisco. The organization’s venue for this June 20th event, slated for 11am to 2pm, will be St. Mary’s Cathedral on Gough Street. There is no entrance fee for this housing resource fair, with parking available and prizes to be had.
For anyone looking to buy a home, it is imperative to get your financial house in order. Thus expo will feature information on household money management and how to better your credit score, with the opportunity to meet with financial whizzes.
First-time homebuyers will also have the chance to meet experts in the real estate field, to ascertain information about affordable-housing options. This includes 1400 Mission, a 100-percent affordable development with 190 units coming available soon. From down-payment assistance to a lesson on how to purchase a below-market-rate (BMR) property in the city, all pertinent topics will be discussed. You will even be able to view properties for sale in various San Francisco neighborhoods.
Current homeowners (congrats, by the way!) often have much to learn about such items as home repairs, so there will be free and low-cost resources on these topics. For those struggling with their mortgage payments, you may be able to meet with your lender–Wells Fargo, Bank of America, CitiMortgage or Nationstar will be in attendance–and a HUD-approved housing counselor.
Knowing that the rental market in San Francisco can be equally daunting, this is the place to learn tenants’ rights, discover options for rentals at affordable monthly prices and access legal services.
“The 2015 SF Housing Expo will have resources for homebuyers, homeowners and tenants. The event will include diverse nonprofits, realtors, attorneys, lenders, credit and housing counselors, and many more exhibitors. There will be city tours of actual affordable homes available for sale. Also, make sure to check out the educational workshops. Distressed homeowners will have resources to help them keep their homes and will be able to meet with their lender. You just can’t miss this FREE event,” sums up Program Coordinator Catalina Valencia of HomeownershipSF.
