MEDA is advancing strategies to create asset-building opportunities for San Francisco’s Latino families and in the Mission District through: (1) our core, integrated Asset Building Programs in housing, financial capability, workforce development, and tax preparation; (2) serving as a backbone agency to advance educational achievement and family economic success through the Mission Promise Neighborhood 2-generation approach; (3) creating and preserving affordable housing and commercial real estate in the Mission District through Community Real Estate; (4) providing access to capital and business technical assistance through MEDA’s CDFI, Fondo Adelante; (5) Policy & Advocacy efforts that support our mission; and (6) Sharing the Model through providing technical assistance on successful MEDA programs to local and national partners.

Position Description

The Development Officer is part of an eight-person Development and Communications team. The Dev & Comms Officer will lead or support on responsibilities that may include but are not limited to: assisting, supporting, or leading in, writing, and monitoring grants; preparing Letters of Inquiry (LOIs) and grant reports; managing fundraising systems and MEDA’s funder database; soliciting donation appeals, mailings, and sponsorship requests; supporting and leading the planning and coordination of key events; and helping the Communication team with generating social media content for MEDA. The Dev & Comms Officer is a strong project manager, writer, relationship builder, and strategic thinker who is passionate about MEDA’s mission to support the Latino community in the SF Mission District. This position is supported by a strong development team and able to work and learn from seasoned professionals in the nonprofit field. This position requires working in MEDA’s San Francisco office three days a week.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist and/or lead in preparing funding proposals (up to $50,000) for corporate and foundation grants, including coordinating proposal components with evaluation, programs, and finance departments.
  • Support the Senior Development Operations Manager in maintaining Development’s Salesforce database for grant, gift, donor, and funder records.
  • Coordinate with Senior Executive Assistant for CEO signature of new grant agreements 
  • Assist Philanthropic Engagement Manager with reconciliation of online giving and donor records in Salesforce CRM.
  • Assist in the coordination of funder meetings, communications, and correspondence.
  • Lead the coordination and logistical duties of virtual and in-person events, including MEDA’s Annual Gala.
  • Assist with MEDA’s annual individual, grassroots donor campaigns and appeals, which include Giving Tuesday, the End-of-Year Appeal, and the MPN Scholarship Fundraiser.
  • Contribute to annual fundraising objectives and strategies.
  • Develop customized presentations and approaches, based on agreed areas of interest and aligned with MEDA’s programming priorities.
  • Work with the Communications team to create social media content and posts. This may include video editing and generating content that supports the Comms calendar.
  • Work with the communications team on the production of monthly newsletters and other external communications for stakeholders and community members.
  • The role is anticipated to dedicate 75% of its time to Development and 25% to Communications responsibilities. 
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. Additional related experience may substitute degree requirement.
  • Three to five years of work experience in direct fundraising for a nonprofit organization with measurable goals.
  • Proficiency with fund development and/or CRM databases; proficiency with the Salesforce CRM database platform is highly desired.
  • Excellent writing skills, with a strong attention to detail. Experience with grant and report writing is preferred.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings, and develop and execute complex presentations.
  • Ability to effectively collect, analyze, organize, distill and present information.
  • Experience with planning and coordinating events.
  • Strong networking skills and ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to learn quickly and thrive in a fast-paced environment while working to meet multiple deadlines. Strong organization, planning and time management skills are a must.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of community development, housing, education, and or other core areas of MEDA’s work is a significant plus.
  • Ability to work both independently with limited direction, and also collaboratively as a team player.
  • Experience with Canva, InDesign or other graphics programs is a plus.
  • Ability to create, generate and edit social media content to include video for MEDA’s social media channels.
