CompTIA A+ Certified IT Instructor

Independent Contractor Position
Contract Length: Per Diem
Hours: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 am – 1:30 pm (in person) & Tuesday and Thursday remote (3 hours per day)
Compensation Range: $45 – $55 per hour DOE

AGENCY OVERVIEW

Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA) – Building on its 47-year history, MEDA is advancing innovative approaches to asset development. Its efforts are focused on serving low-income, Spanish-speaking San Franciscans. Our direct service programs serve 7,500 individuals annually through homeownership counseling and foreclosure intervention, business development, digital literacy, workforce development, financial education, and free tax preparation. We also devote resources to research and evaluation, community organizing, and advocacy. In the process, MEDA is helping to develop best practices in the field.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

As a part of the primary responsibility to provide quality instruction, the MEDA’s Workforce Mission Techies training program expects the instructor to meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses of study with the established curriculums in the timeline established; and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with Workforce Mission Techies training program policies, procedures, and regulations. Teaching would include a variety of formats: In person, remote, and online.

The instructor would build, set up, keep organized and run the IT lab and classroom according to the coordinator of the program instructions and the program deliverables.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build & install a computer lab.
  • Keep data inventory updated.
  • Keep printer, laptop classroom, lab tools, software, and equipment inventory organized and cleaned.
  • Instruct and supervise students to keep laptops class, lab tools, software, and equipment organized and cleaned.
  • Lead hands-on labs using computers, laptops, software, tools, cabling, switches, routers, etc., related to the class deliveries.
  • Manage computer database and maintenance of laboratory.
  • Provide classroom instruction to students working to achieve a Google IT Support Professional Certificate.
  • Merge elements and deliver classes in an LMS platform such as Canvas or Moodle, etc.
  • Develop, manage, and implement Linux/Unix (for example) base network and end-user security methodologies and practices to protect systems from security threats.
  • Deliver the Google Coursera curriculum based on the program metrics for student learning and testing.
  • Use lectures, labs, demonstrations, PowerPoint, presentations from the Google Coursera curriculum, etc., to convey the subject matter based on the course metrics.
  • Supply students with the necessary knowledge throughout the course.
  • Provide students’ performance, attendance, and progress reports to the program coordinator weekly, monthly, and by course based on
  • KPI’s Workforce program.
  • Deliver content and daily classes based on the following five courses of the Google IT Support Profession Certificate:
  • Technical support fundamentals
  • The bits and bytes of computer networking
  • Operating Systems and you; Becoming a power user
  • System administration and IT infrastructure services
  • IT security defender against the digital dark arts
  • Record attendance and grades, tutor students, and prep students for exam certificates.
  • Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of MEDA’s Workforce Mission Techies training program.
  • Maintain current competence in the particular field of specialization.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent organizational skills and classroom management skills.

  • Ability to communicate complex subjects clearly and engagingly and leverage instructional technology.
  • Ability to work with groups of varying ages, skills level, and socio-economic backgrounds.

  • Must be a self-starter and innovative thinker.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Must hold active CompTIA A+ certification.
  • Two (2) years experience teaching CompTIA A+ training program or equivalent.
  • Professional experience using exam objectives in real-world use case scenarios.
  • Experience teaching adult learners.
  • Experience teaching in a classroom, hybrid, and online formats.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying levels of proficiency.
