Family Economic Success Coach


Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA) – Rooted in the Mission and focused on San Francisco, MEDA’s mission is to strengthen low- and moderate-income Latino families by promoting economic equity and social justice through asset building and community development.

Through its two-generation approach, and Mission Promise Neighborhood (MPN) network, MEDA links family economic security with student social and academic achievement. It creates a comprehensive, integrated framework of evidence-based services that responds to urgent needs and builds on the foundation of student, family, community, and school strengths and assets.

MEDA is advancing strategies to create asset building opportunities for San Francisco’s Latino families through: (1) our core, integrated Asset Building Programs related to financial capability, housing, workforce development, business development and tax preparation; (2) serving as a backbone agency to advance educational achievement and family economic success through the Promise Neighborhoods 2-generation approach; (3) creating and preserving affordable housing and commercial real estate in the Mission District through Community Real Estate; (4) providing access to capital and innovative financial products through the Adelante Fund; and (5) Policy & Advocacy efforts that support our mission.


MEDA is a partner with Mission Neighborhood Centers (MNC) and Good Samaritan Family Resource Center (GSFRC) in a new Comprehensive FRC – El Centro Bayview – in San Francisco’s Bayview-Hunters Point district (BVHP). El Centro Bayview will provide broad-based, holistic, integrated family support services welcoming to all, but focused on low-income, Latino and immigrant families. El Centro Bayview is also focused on families with children 8 years of age and younger.


The Family Economic Success Advocate will be co-located approximately 67% at El Centro Bayview, and approximately 33% at MEDA’s Plaza Adelante.

The Family Economic Success Advocate will be responsible for working with primarily low- and moderate- income, Latino, Spanish-speaking families at El Centro Bayview and MEDA’s Plaza Adelante. The Family Economic Success Advocate will also work with El Centro Bayview and MEDA Asset Building & MPN staff to link families to the comprehensive services available through both collaborations.

The Family Economic Success Advocate will:

Family Services

  • Conduct bilingual outreach through community events and partners, in-person, and through material distribution
  • Provide one-on-one asset building coaching, including Financial Capability coaching and make connections to other services such as free Tax preparation, ITIN application assistance, housing opportunities, and Workforce & Business Development
  • Provide enhanced intake and referrals services to families
  • Provide one-on-one consultations to families and their children to assess their needs, and help them develop and follow through with action plans that will help them meet academic, financial and other family and/or personal goals.
  • Ensure that each family is accessing services they need and that barriers to service delivery and uptake are removed.
  • Support families in applying for affordable housing, public benefits, and other resources to reach their family goals.
  • Conduct bilingual workshops for families on navigating and partnering with their children’s schools- may include coordinating other partners to facilitate
  • Conduct bilingual workshops on Family Economic Success and generational asset building.


  • Coordinate with both El Centro Bayview and MEDA Asset Building and MPN staff on shared activities and performance measures
  • Provide excellent customer service in a culturally and linguistically appropriate way that empowers and supports each community member.
  • Coordinate with partners to create a seamless transition and referral system for families along the “pipeline” of services.
  • Identify and establish relationships with new service providers that offer services needed by families.

Data Management

  • Collect, monitor, track and maintain all data on families and students served, including demographic, family finance, public benefits, and referrals.
  • Collect, monitor, and track data on student and/or family’s progress toward their goals daily and in a centralized and shared database, and identifying additional supportive and/or more intensive services where needed.
  • Be available to assist partner organizations to input MPN related data into shared database and build their capacity to use the shared database system.
  • Ensure the timely collection, entry, quality, and security of client data.

Community Advocacy

  • Participate in advocacy on a variety of issues affecting parents, children, and families in San Francisco.
  • Participate in advocacy for asset building opportunities in San Francisco.
  • Represent the organization in various community forums.


  • Minimum of Bachelor Degree, or equivalent experience required.
  • 1-2 years of case management and/or coaching experience preferred.
  • Spanish fluency required. Must be able to read and write in Spanish.


  • Excellent verbal communication, presentation skills, and customer service.
  • Professional or personal experience working with low and moderate income and immigrant communities required.
  • Experience working with families required.
  • Excellent writing and computer skills including use of database systems.
  • Ability to collaborate with and build strong and trusting relationships with all service partners (CBOs, schools, public agencies) is required
  • Experience in personal financial education and coaching in an integrated services setting is preferred.
  • Must be available to work outside regular business hours (evenings and weekends).
  • Salesforce experience is a plus.
  • Experience working on First 5 funded initiatives is a plus.
  • Familiarity with community services in San Francisco’s Bayview, Mission, and/or Excelsior neighborhood preferred.
