15. ¡Basta Ya! ¡Grito Desesperado! / Basta Ya! Desperate Cry
Fires in the Mission are becoming more frequent. The front building burned down one morning when I was getting ready to take my children to school. My kids asked, “What will happen with our neighbors and where are they going to live now that the building has burned down?” The situation is traumatic for all of us and we wonder if our building is safe because we do not want to end up on the street. The owners of our buildings do not keep the apartments in good condition and this makes our homes prone to such disasters. There are rumors in the community that these fires are not accidents and instead are deliberate acts to get us out of our homes. We do not see the City government working to prevent these tragedies. We simply say enough! We do not want more fires in the Mission!
