13. ¡Pongan Atención! / Pay Attention!
This mural is on a school building at the corner of 19th Street and Harrison. This art is part of the richness of the Mission. Next to it, we see the first tent, the kind where homeless people now live. This mural bears witness to the great need that exists here in La Mission, to the crisis we are experiencing. As luxury housing is developed, affordable housing declines, and families like mine cannot afford the prices. I worry and live in fear, because I don’t know if today or tomorrow this could be my reality, and who is paying attention? Who is watching out for my family? As a community, we have to ask for support, use community resources, know our rights, demand better job opportunities and support our neighbors. I do not want to see my neighbors on the street. We have to leave egoism behind and unite as one family.
