11. El Sueño Americano en La Mission / The American dream in the Mission
This is the reality of many people who come to this country after leaving their homeland to seek a better life in America. Every day we see more people living on the streets due to the lack of well-paying jobs and the expensive rent in San Francisco. Living in these conditions is not healthy or fair for our community because we are exposed to many diseases and to the dangers of the street. My family is affected by seeing our neighbors on the street without a safe and stable place to live. I live in fear that my two children and I might end up in the same situation. It affects us emotionally, causing us stress, anxiety, and depression. My children experience the same fear that this is the American dream for us.
