The Mission PhotoVoice Project

Community Assessment for Safe & Affordable Housing in San Francisco (CASAH-SF)

Latina mothers turn a lens on housing conditions, housing insecurity and displacement in the Mission.

There is a health crisis in the Bay Area resulting from the lack of affordable and stable housing. Although homelessness is an acknowledged problem in San Francisco, housing insecurity for children younger than school age and pregnant women has not been adequately addressed. Due to high rent for both market-rate and affordable-housing units, many families live in unconventional and overcrowded units. These living conditions remain invisible to housing policymakers.

The vivid testimonies of the PhotoVoice project makes them visible.

This project is a collaboration between Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA) and the SF Department of Public Health.
