The Bay Areas tech boom, with an influx of six-figure-earners, has had a ripple effect on real estate prices. In addition to skyrocketing housing and rental prices, soaring land values and construction costs also threatened affordable-housing development across the region. As such, market-rate housing expansion has far outpaced the creation or preservation of affordable housing. These conditions result in an untenable situation for many families: housing costs that account for over half the family income, overcrowded and unhealthy living conditions, and/or persistent threats of eviction, displacement and/or homelessness.18MISSION ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AGENCY'
