2018 was the year MEDA’s vision came into clear focus. It’s called the big picture. How so? Our replicable models are being shared across the nation. These models showcase best practices in financial services integration, a cradle-to-college-to-career education initiative employing a two-generation approach, and affordable housing and CDFI lending as springboards to community development. In 2018, 7,400 clients were strengthened by MEDA’s services. That’s the most ever. But, more importantly, our impact with each client is now all the greater. While our clients come to us at different points of their journey to family economic success, there is one commonality: the desire for wealth and power-building for generations to come. That dream, especially common with immigrants, is exemplified by one client story — that of Luz Rodríguez, whose family strengthening is portrayed throughout this annual report. As you turn these pages, you will see the unfolding of a story that is a microcosm of the big picture, from building family wealth and finding secure housing to kids succeeding in school and Luz becoming a community leader. 2019’s work promises to build on our big picture, as we work with our community toward systems change via the recent launch of MEDA’s affiliated 501(c)(4), Mission Adelante. We invite you to see how your mission aligns with MEDA’s mission … and how fostering and growing an ecosystem of Latino wealth and power-building can be accelerated in San Francisco’s Mission District, and beyond. Now is the time. Our time. The big picture is in clear view. Luis Granados Chief Executive Officer T H E B I G P I C T U R E 2
