Rooted in San Francisco’s Mission District, MEDA is advancing a national equity movement by building Latino prosperity, community ownership and civic power. We envision generations of Latino families choosing where to call home, thriving economically, succeeding in learning opportunities, and leading policy and social change toward a more equitable society.
For over 50 years, MEDA has advanced economic mobility for Latino and immigrant families in San Francisco’s Mission District. From building and preserving 2,500 affordable housing units to supporting more than 600 small businesses with $18 million in lending, our programs are rooted in equity, stability, and long-term impact. Through Mission Promise Neighborhood—our cradle-to-career initiative—children and families access education, health, and economic supports at every stage of life. Each year, thousands of families turn to MEDA for services ranging from tax preparation to job training, helping them build wealth, avoid displacement, and stay rooted in their community.
MEDA’s offices are located in San Francisco’s Mission District and operate in all nine Bay Area counties.
MEDA offers a range of free programs to support economic mobility, including:
Financial Capability – Coaching on budgeting, credit, savings, and debt management.
Tax Preparation –
Workforce Development – Job training, career coaching, and placement support.
Small Business Support  – Business advising, access to capital, and entrepreneurial training.
Affordable Housing & Homeownership – Rental assistance, first-time homebuyer support, and eviction defense.
MEDA’s programs serve low- and moderate-income individuals and families, primarily in San Francisco’s Mission District. We support job seekers, small business owners, renters, aspiring homeowners, and students—providing the tools and resources needed to build financial stability and long-term success.
