POSITION DESCRIPTION
The role of the Real Estate Accountant is responsible for all accounting activities for MEDA’s properties including but not limited to the following:
- Prepare and maintain accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for the portfolio to executive management, owners and investors in accordance with a close calendar.
- Ensure the financial integrity of the portfolio, providing a customer first approach, supporting a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Communicate the portfolio’s financial performance in both written and verbal formats.
- Comfortable being an individual with a history of integrity, results, and respect that will enhance our collegial work environment.
The Real Estate Accountant should have strong analytical skills and background in real estate accounting. The successful candidate will be able to thrive in a team environment as well as be able to work well under pressure and deadlines.
Job Responsibilities
- Work closely to the Asset Manager to ensure financial integrity and accurate, timely monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting.
- Prepare recurring and adjusting journal entries, including cash, monthly accruals, amortization, bank reconciliations and support of third –party audit.
- Assist Real Estate Department with timely communication of information and analysis of trends and forecasts and recommend actions for future projects
- Help with mortgage payments, cash management and ownership distributions.
- Maintain organized files and accounting records for multiple properties and ownership groups
- Complete other various accounting projects as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- BA/BS in Accounting/Finance or related field required
- 0-3+ years working on an accounting department experience
- Understanding and familiarity with Accrual Accounting.
- Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel
- Strong time management skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple deadlines.
- Reliable team-oriented individual who is detailed oriented person with strong organizational skills.
- Have passion for MEDA’s mission and a strong desire to impact a dynamic nonprofit organization.
- Experience with affordable housing highly desirable.
- Spanish language a plus.
