AGENCY OVERVIEW
Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA) – Rooted in the Mission and focused on San Francisco, MEDA’s mission is to strengthen low- and moderate-income Latino families by promoting economic equity and social justice through asset building and community development.
In 2015 MEDA launched a community loan fund – Fondo Adelante – to provide loans to small businesses in San Francisco and the surrounding region that are currently underserved by traditional lenders. Fondo Adelante also recently launched a real estate loan program to provide acquisition and rehabilitation financing to affordable housing developers in the Bay Area. With these two loan programs – small business and real estate – MEDA’s Fondo Adelante is providing capital necessary to stabilize and strengthen economically distressed neighborhoods, with a particular emphasis on communities of color.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Financial Analyst role is imperative to the financial planning and the responsibility of keeping track of MEDA’s financial plan, create forecasts and calculate variances between those forecasts and actuals, as well as, manage risk mitigation for Fondo Adelante’s loans post-approval and manage compliance with all funder, lender, and regulatory requirements. The duties of the financial analyst revolve around analyzing financial information to come up with forecasts for the organization and help it make informed, and therefore hopefully correct, decisions.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform financial forecasting, reporting, and operational metrics tracking for MEDA and the loan fund
- Analyze financial data – and create financial models to support the loan fund’s business decisions
- Report on financial performance and prepare for regular leadership and Board reviews
- Analyze past results, perform variance analysis, identify trends, and make recommendations for improvements
- Work closely with the accounting team to support the monthly GL reconciliations
- Increase MEDA productivity by developing automated reporting/forecasting tools
- Maintain a strong financial analysis foundation creating forecasts and models
- Help determining the ongoing adequacy of the allowance for loan losses account based on the application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Support the Fondo Adelante program in the preparation of approved small business and real estate loans for closing
- Manage loan disbursements on real estate loans requiring multiple disbursements
- Organize documents required by funders and lenders: insurance certificates, signed contracts, bank information, required financial statements, debt schedules, etc.
- Execute other financial analysis and compliance tasks as the need arises
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of business finance, loan portfolio administration, or other relevant experience
- High proficiency with financial modeling and techniques
- Experience with loan closing and loan portfolio administration, preferred
- Strong fluency with Excel formulas and functions
- BA, BS degree required (Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance/Economics) MBAs are preferred
- Solid analytical and data gathering skills
- Excellent communication skills; be comfortable interacting with director-level management
- Have passion for MEDA’s mission and a strong desire to impact a dynamic nonprofit organization.
- Spanish language a plus.
