AGENCY DESCRIPTION

Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA)– Rooted in the Mission and focused on San Francisco, MEDA’s mission is to strengthen low- and moderate-income Latino families by promoting economic equity and social justice through asset building and community development.

Over our 45 year history, MEDA has advanced innovative approaches to promote economic equity for the Latino community in San Francisco. Our dynamic collective impact strategy includes: Asset Building Programs (ABP), affordable housing preservation and development, 2-generation education and career pipeline via Mission Promise Neighborhood, CDFI lending, and Policy & Advocacy division, and a newly launched 501(c)(4) independent affiliate, Mission Adelante. Asset Building Programs provides direct services to over 7000 families annually to support generational wealth and power building in the areas of Financial Capability, Taxes, Housing, Workforce, and Business Development. ABP is expanding its community engagement strategies to include more direct community member engagement, organizing and advocacy, and local organizational training and capacity building to expand connections to Latinos across San Francisco and beyond.

MEDA’s ¡Viva! Sharing the Model initiative is a training and technical assistance package of MEDA’s Asset Building program model and capacity building of local, regional, and national agencies. This comprehensive package, grounded in Human Centered Design, is coupled with MEDA’s expert staff for one-on-one organizational engagements, national network consulting, and regional best practice exchange convenings across California. MEDA is both funded for and funds this work, passing through funds to organizations committed to utilizing Financial Capability as a key strategy for wealth and power building in low-income, immigrant, and communities of color.

MEDA is also piloting its Nuestra Casa Sharing the Model work to provide training, technical assistance, and consulting to other affordable housing developers seeking to launch or enhance real estate acquisition preservation programs in their communities.
