Your Career Opportunity

As the Asset Building Coach, you will be responsible for working with low- and moderate-income San Francisco households, focusing predominantly on the Latino community, to help them navigate the affordable housing market in San Francisco as well as providing them with free tax preparation and support through the tax season. You will use your client service skills to prepare taxes, connect clients to financial products and services, and supervise tax sites. As a housing opportunities coach, you will support clients accessing affordable housing through workshops and one-on-one coaching. You will assist clients with rental applications and preparation, pre and post-purchase, and other financial capability needs as they arise.

Specifically, you will:

  • Assist clients with tax preparation of current year taxes and applying for and renewing Individual Tax Identification Numbers (ITINs).
  • Supervise and run tax preparation sites as assigned by the Financial Assets Program Manager, including reviewing taxes prepared by volunteers.
  • Train and support tax volunteers to pass the IRS’s required VITA tests.
  • Coach and support clients in renting or purchasing an affordable home through financial capability, rental readiness, and pre-purchase coaching.
  • Assist and educate clients on navigating the City of San Francisco’s Below Market Rate (BMR) system for affordable rental and purchase.
  • Facilitate First-time Homebuyer, Rental, and Financial Capability Workshops.

Your Keys to Success

To perform successfully in this role, you will need to leverage these key qualifications:

  • Have the ability to read, speak and write fluently in Spanish and English.
  • Have a bachelor’s degree or 2-3 years’ related life experience as an asset building coach.
  • Be certified or have the ability to obtain certification as a HUD housing counselor and tax preparer.
  • Professional or personal experience working with low and moderate-income and immigrant communities required.
  • Excellent writing and computer skills including word processing and use of database systems.
  • Experience in personal financial education and coaching in integrated services setting preferred.
  • Must be available to work outside regular business hours (evenings and weekends).
  • Financial Coaching certification a plus.
  • Salesforce experience a plus.
