Why I Give Wednesday: MEDA Development Officer Alberto Galindo

1877-11182015_Alberto-Galindo_640x295pxTo celebrate this season of giving and thankfulness, every Wednesday we will showcase staff, Board members, volunteers and clients telling what this Mission District, San Francisco nonprofit brings to their lives.

As Thanksgiving approaches, I find myself reflecting on the many blessings in my life — both professional and personal. Professionally, I’m thankful that I work with colleagues that devote their time, knowledge and compassion to a mission that helps families and communities prosper.

“I’m also grateful for our inspirational clients, who thank you for ‘everything you have done for them,’ even if it wasn’t that much. Back in early October, I walked into the staff lounge to fill up my canteen, as I do each and every morning. To my surprise, I found a spread of delicious Salvadoran food laid out across the table. Luis Estrada, co-owner of D’Maize Catering and longtime MEDA client, stood there preparing plates, smiling and shaking every staff member’s hand. When I asked what occasion we were celebrating, he responded with, ‘No special occasion–it’s our small way of saying thanks to MEDA for all the hard work each one of you puts in every day.’

“I share this story because of the appreciation I have for the work MEDA does as shown through clients such as Luis Estrada. Although I’m still fairly new to the organization, MEDA already feels like a big family that motivates me on a daily basis. So, thank you all for giving so much of yourselves to this organization, especially at this time of year.”
