Pre-Applications to Get on Waitlist for YWCA’s 97 Units of Affordable Rentals for Seniors and the Disabled

BlogIt doesn’t get more iconic San Francisco than 940 Powell’s Nob Hill location: you are around the block from the ritzy Fairmont Hotel and the clanging of cable car bells can be heard below.

So, it’s quite the opportunity that pre-applications are being accepted Sept. 19 to 30 to get on the waitlist for 97 units of affordable apartment rentals at the YWCA building. It should be noted that a lottery will be held on Nov. 10 to determine who will get on the waitlist for these studios and one-bedroom units, plus you must be disabled or a senior age 62+ to apply. Additionally, family size must be one person for a studio and two persons for a one-bedroom.

As far as income level goes, the maximum allowable for a studio is $65,700 annually, while it is $75,100 per year for the one-bedroom units. Pre-applicants must list all sources of income.

To assist the community in filling out these forms, the MEDA Housing Opportunities team will be on hand Sept. 20 at 5:45 p.m. on the third floor of Plaza Adelante, 2301 Mission Street at 19th, to make this process less intimidating for those interested. The YWCA will select 200 pre-applications for the studio waitlist; there will be 50 pre-applications selected for the one-bedroom waitlist.

Individuals selected for the waitlist will be notified by mail and will be expected to reply within 90 days to confirm their waitlist position and provide their full application at that time. Results will be posted outside of the YWCA building itself and online.

The features and amenities of 940 Powell are many, ranging from elevators and a community room to a computer lab ad onsite professional staff.

If you are disabled or a senior age 62+ and are in need of affordable housing in San Francisco, please come to MEDA’s workshop on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 5:45 p.m. for assistance in filling out the pre-application for the waitlist.

Contact MEDA’s at (415) 282-3334 ext. 101 for more information or to register for the Sept. 20 workshop.
