MEDA December 2014 Volunteer of the Month: Liat Samuel

Liat SamuelEach month, the Mission Economic Development Agency honors one of its dedicated volunteers—the people who are an integral part of MEDA’s ability to provide free services to low- and moderate-income Bay Area residents. Thanks to all of the selfless MEDA volunteers who choose Plaza Adelante as their second home.

Name: Liat Samuel
Program: Homeownership

Why did you decide to volunteer with MEDA?
I wanted to give back to the Mission neighborhood and community, which I moved to a year and a half ago. I was also interested in improving my administration skills.

What projects have you worked on as a volunteer?
I am an admin volunteer and help out in the Homeownership program twice a week.

What do you like best about volunteering at MEDA?
I like the program’s coaches with whom I work–they are dedicated, hardworking and awesome people!

What have you learned from your volunteer experience?
MEDA is doing great work with the local community on many fronts. I became more familiar with the Homeownership program during the past few months and have come to appreciate the process and dedication of the coaches. It is touching to see how they care about the families they help

Tell us something we may not know about you. Any interesting facts you’d like to share about your life?
I was born in Israel, grew up in London and moved to San Francisco about a year ago with my husband and a cat. I also volunteer with senior dogs. Loving San Francisco so far!
